Adding up to 10

I am learning to write number sentences to 10.  I use the number line to help me count on.  I am working towards trying to do this in my head.

Phonics

We are learning to listen and record the sounds we can hear.  We are able to blend the sounds altogether.  We can use our phonics at Story writing and Reading time to help us.

" I can write words by myself because we robot them at Story writing, Phonics and Reading" said  Grayson

Making Pizza

We made pizza as a class, using ingredients that we had grown ourselves. 

These photos show the writing process. We started with the 'draft stage', where students try to use the skills they have been taught. After 'conferencing' with the teacher and 'editing', they produce the 'published work' for their audience to enjoy.

We drew ourselves on a vehicle of our choice and then wrote a story about it.

I Am Learning To Add Details To My Writing

I am learning to add details to my writing.  

I can write when something happened.

"I can find the day cards on the shelf but sometimes it's tricky to find the right one.  I can check the board too."

I Am Learning To Tell The Time

We have made clocks at school. 

We are learning to tell o'clock and half past times using our clocks.

"I go to bed at 8 o'clock."

Our Big Book Activity - The Snake Cake

We have been reading the big book 'The Snake Cake' and decided that we would make a snake cake  too.  We spread pink icing on the biscuits and stuck them together so they looked liked a snake.  

Then we put some blue icing on the top and M & M's too.  

Then we ate it.  It was delicious!

My Art Exhibition Masterpiece

This term we painted pictures for the 

Elm Park School Art Exhibition 2015.

The focus of our artwork was experimenting with different painting techniques, blending and shading colours together and creating repeating patterns.

To create our 'flower masterpiece' we practised mixing different shades of the same colour to create the wavy lines.  Then we used black vivid to create a repeating pattern.  We had fun putting our pictures together to create a whole flower - this was the best part!

Reading Term 3

I Am Learning About Root Words.

I can find a root word and I can make more words using different endings - s, ing, ed.

"I can find some of the words but sometimes I need help.  I can find them quickly in my book.  I like looking for them."

Writing Term 3

Writing Progressions 1P:
I am learning to

• add some detail to my writing
• choose words to make my writing more interesting

We wrote about about a Kapa Haka Performance that we watched in the auditorium during Māori Language Week.  First we wrote 2 sentences and then the next day we added some more writing to make our stories more interesting.

"I like to write about gorillas.  I like to write about giants.  I can use the alphabet cards to help me spell interesting words.  I am a fabulous writer."

I am learning to add and subtract numbers to 10.

"I can play Slide Addition on the iPads.  I played with my buddy Holly.  It was tricky because I had to add with my fingers first."

100 Days Smarter!

On the 23rd July 2015 Room 5 celebrated 100 days of school.  

We had a small class celebration, made crowns and wrote about our favourite things to do at school.

We are now 100 days smarter!!!
